Daniela Cruz Moreira

PhD student @POLIMI on Development of a lab-on-chip platform for preconditioning adult-derived stem cells for tissue engineering

Daniela Cruz Moreira is a biomedical engineer passionate about the exercise of creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. She was born in Porto (Portugal) in 1990. Her main areas of interest are Cell and Tissue Engineering and Biosystems Innovation. In 2009 she attended the research training program at Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica – INEB (Porto, Portugal) collaborating on a project whose main field of study was the foreign body reaction to biomaterials. She graduated in Biomedical Engineering in 2011 and afterwards, in 2014, she earned her Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (Portugal) with a thesis related to the conception of a fully integrated lab-on-a-chip sensor platform capable of being clinically implemented for point-of-care pathogen detection. Since then, she matured a genuine interest in this bioscience-based engineering concept and focused her attention in projects related to microfluidics for biological research. Currently, she is a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher within the Multisectoral Integrative Approaches to Cardiac care (MUSICA project) and also a PhD student at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). Her research activity concerns the conception, development and validation of lab-on-a-chip platforms for preconditioning adult-derived stem cells for cardiac tissue engineering.
