Federico Cané

PhD student @UGENT on Quantification of intra-cardiac flow

Federico Cané, born in 1990, completed his BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, respectively, in July 2012 and April 2015. The master thesis project was developed in collaboration with the Artificial Heart Lab of the Pennsylvania State University; it regarded the fluid dynamical evaluation within a 12 cc Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device coupling an in vitro evaluation by means of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique and an innovative CFD model based on a moving mesh approach. Currently, he is a Marie Curie early Stage Researcher within the MUSICA project (MUltiSectoral Integrative approaches to Cardiac care) and also a PhD student at Ghent University. The aim of his research is to develop a CFD model based on the segmentation of 4D MRI data in order to characterize the intracardiac flow.
